Those are very nice looking slabs you have there Alan. Congratulations. I have been trying to get, in my collection, at least one, green label PCGS, silver dime sample slab. The very few I have seen, I consider expensive. However, that might be because I am not "yet" too into the collecting of the sample slabs. But, I really want, at least one, to have in my collection. Preferably an older generation sample slab. I have had a couple before, but gave them away or sold them because they were newer samples.

Either way, I hope to acquire a nice green seal one day, and feel proud of owning such a collectible slab.

BTW, I read this article which I found very informative and was found of it afterward. Thank you very much for writing such knowledgeable articles for us to learn from.

Hi Rigo
Thank you, I really try to put every think I can into making my articles enjoyable to read and to help educate collectors who are just starting out, as well as the ones who know what they are doing. I am now also writing sample articles now for PCGS

The PCGS 1964 and 1964-D I would say are the two most common sample slabs to find.
That being said as I said in one of my articles from last year, the hobby is becoming so popular that even "common" samples are going to become harder and harder to find and that is just what is now happening. Plus the prices are going up as I also said they would.
Samples are made in very small lots, some as little as five, some others up to a 1000 samples they can disappear very fast into collections, but for some reason this sample has been around very often. In fact almost every day for the past year it has been up for sale, but now it is finally getting harder to find.

This sample use to sell for around $6.00, now I am seeing them sell for $14.00 to over $30.00. but this is the same for all samples.
I monitor sample slab sales every day, so I know what is selling and for how much.
I saw a PCI 1944-S Red BU Lincoln Wheat Cent, Ex. 1993 Long Beach Show, sell last week for $255.00 I have one from another Long Beach Show that I recived as a gift from a reader, and I remember when they would sell for around $10.00.

That is how crazy the market has become in the past six months. I own a samples that cost me $25.00 it has a very worn 1911 victory Nicole in it, the coin is worth less than a dollar or so. The same one except for the date, sold last week for over $300.00 !!! I got mine from a private sale six months ago, and had to save just to get it. "Now that one sold for the slab not the coin". This is how popular the hobby is becoming...

I got very very lucky with the PCGS 1964-D this week, I paid $4.99 i swear!!! it just got missed.
It has taken me a year to get this sample, as I just can't afford to buy them like I use to.
I will keep my eye open for you as I have records of just about all the sample slabs that have been sold in the past eight months and short-cuts on my desktop to all the sites that have them for sale. Hey you could just get lucky like did LOL.

I collect samples now instead of coins, and they are starting to become just as expensive as some coins.
That is why I am selling all my slabbed coins.
Sorry for rambling on so.

LOL.... Alan, ramble all you want sir. This is what this forum is for. For collectors to express themselves (Unleash the collector in you is our motto). Besides, I'm sure that other than myself, other collectors like to read what others write and see the passion you have on slab coinage.

I also believe sample slab collecting is growing. So I see you are getting a lot more visitors to your articles, specially when posted in forums.

Hi Rigo
You can see when I get hits on the articles I post? Even though they are on so many different forms.
If so that is so very cool.... "I was going to say groovy but my daughter says I sound weird" LOL
